How To Grow Your Email List

There are hundreds of routes to take when trying to add subscribers to your email list. You can have them opt into text messages, create pop-up ads, run Facebook ads for your list, use referrals, scrape your social followers info, use SEO, and on and on. It’s never-ending. On top of this, when we get advice on how to build our list, it’s usually a combination of 3 or more of these tactics. If you are starting off, how are you supposed to learn how to do all of these things, hire the right people to help you, get everything right, and launch your list building campaigns without experiencing high frustration, confusion, and problems!? You can’t and you won't, it’s unrealistic. I know when I first started PickaSite, I did this exact strategy and what happened? 3 months later I was stressed out of my mind with ZERO results. Don’t make the same mistake, start off with a process that is simple and works. All you need to do are these 4 things:

  1. Create a lead magnet
  2. Signup with the right email marketing software.
  3. Create a pop-up and landing page for your lead magnet
  4. Increase your website visitors

Create a lead magnet

Without a lead magnet for your business, you’ll have nothing to offer in exchange for your customer’s email address. If you have a valuable lead magnet in exchange for your customer’s email, they will HAPPILY hand over their personal inbox with the hopes that you’ll provide more helpful content in the future. A lead magnet is something that will solve your customer’s problem in relation to your services in exchange for their email address. You can create a PDF, email video series, free course, product sample, product trial, coupon, etc. You’ll need to find what form of a lead magnet will work best for your business. Here’s an example: If you are a personal trainer and you help people achieve their fitness goals, you could create a PDF that will help your customers with a problem they might have. This PDF could be titled “How To Lose Your First 30 Lbs: A Checklist For Your Fitness Goals”. In this PDF you would tell them briefly how to lose their first 30 lbs and provide them with a checklist to achieve this goal. Have your graphic designer and copywriter use this file in Adobe Illustrator and edit it to your business’s needs.

Signup with the right email marketing software.

The next step is storing your email subscribers in a database for future use. Personally, I prefer using email marketing software so when you are ready to utilize email marketing, you are ready to go! Make sure to fully set up your account and to link all your website signup forms to your email marketing software. Create a pop-up and landing page for your lead magnet

Pop-ups. . . ew! I know, I know. They can be annoying especially now more than ever but they work! If you don’t use a pop-up on your website, I promise you will miss out on a huge opportunity for nourishing your business and growing your email subscribers. If you feel guilty for using pop-ups, just make sure that what you are interrupting their browsing for is extremely important and can help them solve a problem they have in life. Create a full landing page for your lead magnet too. Treat your lead magnet like a full product and guide the people that may be interested in it to the signup form. If you do this they will be more likely to signup and give you their email. Showcase the benefits of your lead magnet, what’s inside it, how it will change their life, and how they can sign up for it. Once you do this, you’ll have everything you need to start converting your website visitors into leads. . . all you need to do is bring the traffic!

Increase Your Website Visitors

“Time to open the flood gates!”. . . or if you’re like me when I started - “Time to start pumping the well”. If you don’t already have a bunch of website visitors, that’s okay. Don’t stress out because now you have everything set in place to grow your email list. There are plenty of ways to increase your site traffic, I recommend you choose a strategy that best suits your current marketing efforts. Here are some ways to increase your site traffic:

  • Search Engine Marketing
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Advertising
  • Events

None of these is the “right way”. If you have a strong social media presence, then social media marketing is probably the way to go for you. If not but you have a high page ranking in search engines, try search engine marketing. If you have the budget for it, you can expedite the process and invest in advertising for your site traffic. Choose a strategy that will best work for your business and ignite your rocket!

All you need to do is create a lead magnet, sign up for an email marketing software, create a landing page and pop-ups for your lead magnet, and increase your website visitors.
